Dear Gahanna Friends and Neighbors,
To keep our school district moving forward, I ask for your vote this November for re-election on the Gahanna-Jefferson School Board. Gahanna is a great place to live, raise a family, and grow a business! I have been honored the past four years to meet many of you and listen to your concerns for our schools. It has only increased my passion for a quality education for our children and deepened my understanding of our community.
We have accomplished much!
In the last four years we have been:
Chairing the Finance Committee for 4 years. Budgeting seven year projections for technology, capital improvements, and curriculum.
Passing Issue 2 in May of 2018
Completing a Master Facilities Plan that included two phases. The first phase equipped six elementary schools and all three middle schools with new furniture and lighting. Bathrooms were remodeled and flooring was replaced in other buildings.
Hiring a new superintendent and treasurer
Enhancing the curriculum with new math and literacy approaches that provide engaging ways to learn.
Adding American Sign Language for high schoolers.
Placing technology in the hands of each student to mimic the requirements needed post-graduation.
Addressed mental health needs in the district, including adding counselors at each elementary school and professional development for teachers.
Forming Finance, Student Learning & Achievement, and Policy Committees. Encouraging transparency and the public to participate in the committees.
As a board we initiated video-taping of our school board meetings that can be viewed at https://gahannatv.com/schools/ as well as audio-taping the three new committees.
There is still much to do!
While much has been accomplished, our growing district enrollment creates the need to move to Phase II of the Master Facilities Plan. Phase II addresses the high school facility in addition to where it is prudent to add classrooms for elementary and middle schoolers. Our buildings were designed to educate 7535 students. Currently our enrollment is 7783. A recently commissioned enrollment study projects 8672 students by 2025.
From a curriculum perspective, workforce development is a priority. The district needs to better prepare our graduates for their next step, be it college or a trade or the military.
Financially, healthcare costs exceeded projections for the past two fiscal years by double-digits which has eroded the cash balance projected when Issue 2 passed. Finding dollars through operating cost reductions or new income is necessary two years earlier than anticipated. This also is a primary focus for school board.
Thank you for your support!
I want to do more and would be honored to serve another four years but I need your partnership. I respectfully ask for your vote on November the 5th. If re-elected, I pledge to keep your trust and continue to be Fiscally Responsible, Student Focused, and Community Minded as we continue to move our schools forward to educate the next generation.
Inspired and Ready to Serve,
